Wherein We Celebrate Daddy's Birthday

|

One of the nice things about living in San Antonio, is that even in October, the weather is pretty nice. Kyle's birthday is on October 13 and to celebrate, we had an adventure at the zoo. Kylie had a blast -- a place where she can shriek and run around and no one objects! A child's paradise.

We did have a bit of a scare where it appeared that Kyle had lost his wallet (nothing like the thought of replacing all your credit cards to put a damper on the day!) but all turned out well when we found in in the parking lot by the car's trunk. So we went back into the zoo, only to run into the Spencers! So Kylie and Tara got to have fun together and, all in all, the day was a success. Go Mommy for organizing everything!

(And here's a thank-you to Nana for watching Kylie and Sammy later that night when Kyle and I went out to eat at the Melting Pot Considering that my children do not like sleeping, it was a more arduous task than she expected. But what do you expect from a family of vampires?)

One of the other neat things about the San Antonio Zoo is their petting zoo. They have the most darling miniature goats. Though Kylie was more interested in the brushes than in the actual animals at least to start with.

But once she go the idea, I think she thought they were kinda cool. Though Mommy insisted on using a ton of wipes afterwords.

It was a wonderful day. Sorry it took me two months to blog about it!

Wherein Kylie and Sammy Pose in Honor of Daddy

|

One thing Kyle and I do is homemade cards for birthday and stuff. So for Kyle's birthday, my idea was to get a picture of the kids looking nice that I could use to make a card. I learned a few things from this experience.
One: children will always change their expression in that split second between when your finger descends on the shutter and the picture actually snaps.
Two: taking pictures of two children with no helpers is crazy-hard.
Three: my kids are cute enough that it all turned out all right anyways (and me taking about 50 shots helped also). Thank goodness <grin>

For those keeping track, these were taken October 10, 2008. Kylie is in her Sunday dress her Nana bought her, and Sammy is in his blessing outfit.

20081010_Kylie&Sam.jpg

This is the picture I used for the card. Aren't they beautiful!

20081010_Kylie&Sam3.jpg

Trying to keep Kylie in one place was a bit of a challenge. That is one squirmy girl I have! I took this picture right before she dived off the couch, and spent the next fifteen minutes trying to keep her hands off of the camera.

Wherein Kylie Drinks Her Bottle

|

For those who are keeping track, these were taken about the middle of September.

Kylie loves her bottle. (Unfortunately, I think we missed the easy weaning period. <sigh> But we're down to two a day, one in the morning and one at night. Score!)

Wherein Kylie and Sammy Play Together (Two Months Ago)

|

<Insert numerous apologies about how I know I'm behind and I'm sorry I'm behind and I'm really trying hard not to be behind which I think is somehow contributing to the being behind in an "I really can't take my life anymore!" kind of way. Now back to the pictures. Thank you.>

Two months ago. Kylie is 17 months and Sam is 2 months.

20080906_Andersons_Kylie&Sammy.jpg

Playing together! Though with adult supervision. Mommy thinking oh this is so cute, Kylie please don't kill your brother, adult supervision.

20080906_Sammy.jpg

Big Yawn!

20080906_Sammy_Background.jpg

I took a photo of Sammy I liked and an online tutorial ('cause I'm geeky this way) and made a wallpaper for my computer. It's actually still up, which is a bit of a record for me, since I tend to change my pictures every few weeks. But I like this one.

Wherein We Visit the Past

|

So I was going through my computer the other day (always a scary thing) and I found all these old pictures that I'd scanned in once upon a time. So I thought I'd share. Hopefully my siblings won't kill me <grin>

Grandpa.jpg

My maternal grandfather died about five years ago. He was an amazing wonderful man, who always thought I should marry an Idaho Farm Boy. Instead, I got Kyle. <grin> I think Grandpa would have approved.

Bennettmen.jpg

My Dad and my brothers Daniel and David (Dan's in the middle). I think this is circa... let's see. It's when we were living in Holiday, and that was the year I was in fifth grade, and that would make it... Christmas of 1988? So twenty years ago... Wow. I feel old. Anyways, aren't they darling?

school2.jpg

Now this was later. We're in the Avenues now, so I was probably somewhere between sixth and maybe eighth grade... Say early nineties and be done with it. The children are, in order, my sister Margaret, my cousin Elizabeth, my sister Elizabeth (yes, it got a little confusing sometimes while growing up <grin>), my brother David, and Me! Looking like I want to be back in bed. Yeah, I was probably in Junior High by that point. <laugh>

siblings.jpg

Me and my siblings! This was just after David came back from his mission. We went on one last vacation to Highlands, North Carolina (My Paternal Grandparents had a vacation home up there). It was wonderful and we had an amazing time. I'd forgotten how short my hair was -- though this does remind me why I don't usually post pictures of myself. Well, that and I'm usually the one taking the pictures. In order: Me, David, Margaret, Daniel, and Elizabeth.

20080809_Kyle&Babies.jpg

And finally, we'll end with a current photo of Kyle and his children. I actually posted this picture already, but I was making it look artsy, and I really liked the way it came out. So there.<pbbbttthhh!>

Wherein Kylie Goes Swimming

|

About two weeks ago, we had a weekend of Birthdays. First off was Jackie, who is Kylie's Aunt's Sister-In-Law's Daughter (Say that five times fast.) Jackie was turning... I think it was six? Anyways, we were invited to the Birthday Party at Jackie's house which has (drumroll, please) a gorgeous swimming pool! Kylie, it turns out, is part fish, and she had an absolute blast. Her only frustration was that her Daddy insisted on holding her and wouldn't let her drown herself. Poor baby <grin>.

Wherein Sammy Turns One Month Old

|

On Friday, Sammy was one month old. It's amazing how fast time flies. In honor of the occasion, I took pictures. And look, I'm posting them sooner than one week! We'll pause for all the 'thuds' of people fainting in shock <grin>.

Wherein We Wave Goodbye to Grandma

|

My mom (hitherto known as "Grandma") came to stay with us for about a week and half right after Sammy was born.

(Well, actually she came a few days before Sammy was born which allowed us to do a little shopping together. Last time, when Kylie was born, Kyle and my Mom went around to all the stores and all I did was sit in the hospital and later in bed at home. This time I wanted the chance to go around as well! I hope my Dad has forgiven us for taking her up to the Outlet stores. How was I supposed to know that there was a Villeroy and Boch store out there?)

Having my Mom here made everything a LOT easier and I had a pretty hard time of it when she left. But before she did, we took pictures!

071508Kylie.jpg

We no longer have a guest bed, so the night before Grandma got here, we bought an air-mattress for her to sleep on and set it up downstairs in the living room. Grandma said it was pretty comfortable, but I think Kylie appreciated it more than anybody. She thought it was the funnest thing to play on since the last time we had empty cardboard boxes in the house <grin> Of course, she did manage to tumble off once and hit her head on a plug-outlet. Luckily she didn't crack open her head. Unluckily, she did crack the outlet. Daffy little girl.

071508Family.jpg

Despite an inauspicious beginning, I think Kylie really is rather fond of Sammy. She loves patting his head, though we have to watch this since she'll get so excited that patting his head mutates into patting his face, which is not so good. The refrain in our house these days is "Gentle! Gentle!"

Wherein We Introduce to the World a Funky Raisin

|

Forrest Samuel was born on July 8 at 12:37 PM and was promptly christened by his father as "The Funky Raisin". He weighed 7 lb 1 oz, and was 19.25 inches in length. And yes, I know it's been three plus weeks since he was born, but life with a newborn AND a toddler is a little chaotic. But everyone's doing fine, Sammy's growing big and strong, and I'm mostly recovered from my c-section. And at last, here are some pictures.

Thumbnail image for Sammy3.jpg

Thumbnail image for Sammy4.jpg

It's funny, but from the very beginning he was different from Kylie. I don't remember Kylie ever looking quite as worried as Sammy does. Of course, considering that he's got a very demanding older sister, he might be right to be a little apprehensive.

Thumbnail image for Sammy6.jpg

Kylie's first introduction to Sammy was not auspicious, though that was partly our fault. Kyle tried to sit her down and put Sammy in her lap. The thing with Kylie is that her independent streak is a mile long. If it's not her idea, she's convinced it's a bad idea. So she took one look at Sammy, burst into tears, and proceeded to throw a min-temper-tantrum. It took her about a day to get used to him, and now the problem is keeping her away. <sigh> It's always one thing or another, isn't it?

Wherein Kylie is Confined

|

Last week I had to go into work on a Kylie-day to print a few things. And I soon realized that my daughter's view of the world as her personal playground didn't translate very well behind the desk at FedEx Kinkos. (Her attempting to chew on the various plugs was a pretty good sign.) So, it was time to think creatively.

One of my co-workers thought my solution was hilarious enough to take some pictures, which he was then kind enough to pass on to me. All I can say is, it worked, I printed my stuff, and we were on our way without property damage OR bodily injury. So there. <Pppbbtttthhh>

Wherein Kylie and Katharine Attend a Party

|

Beginning of March, Kylie and I went to a baby shower for my cousin Jessica. It gave Kylie a chance to wear a pretty new dress bought for her by her Nana, and she looked lovely. Behaved pretty well too, which is good. I'd hate to think we scared Jessica with what she had in store .

Wherein Kylie Eats Churros

|
Our last night in Disneyland, we went back to the park and watched the Parade. It was wonderful and fun -- especially watching Kylie's face. We were sitting right in front of the train station on Main Street, and while we were waiting for the Parade to start, Kyle took the opportunity to introduce Kylie to churros -- something he'd been planning to do ever since he found out we were going to Disneyland. (Churros at Disneyland are a tradition in his family.) Based on how quickly she sucked at it and how messy she got, I'd say it was a success. <grin>

Wherein We Rest at New Orleans Square

|

So after Bugs Life Land (or whatever it's actually called), we mosied on over to the Boardwalk area to ride the Ferris Wheel. Why? Because it's a tradition. Even though the Ferris Wheel makes me want to curl up in a little ball and die, part of me loves the idea of the Ferris Wheel and keeps thinking 'This time it will be different.'

Yes, I'm delusional, I know.

Anyways, after we survived the Ferris Wheel, we went back over to Disneyland and went to lunch at the Blue Bayou (another K.Anderson Family Tradition). We had a little bit of time before our reservations, so we sat down in New Orleans Square, fed Kylie, and people watched. It was perfect.

Ferris_Wheel.jpg

Kylie had no problem with the Ferris Wheel at all. She actually insisted on standing up on the seat and holding onto the wire that fences in the window. Kyle gave me the camcorder to work after the third whimper or so (that's Katharine whimpering, in case you're confused) and it helped because it gave me something to focus on. The video I took is probably useless, because we kept going from shadow to sunlight and I kept on trying to adjust the exposure to match. But it was wonderful in keeping my mind off the empty space beneath me.

New_Orleans_Square_2.jpg

A few minutes after we set up, this old man sat down, brought out his guitar, and just started jamming. And I know that he's a paid park performer, but he had this air that he was just doing what he was in the mood to do, no matter what anybody else felt.

Wherein We Pose in California Sunlight

|

So on Wednesday (our last day at Disneyland <sob>) we started out by going to California Adventures and doing some playing around in a Bug's Life Land (or whatever it's called.) We went and did a show which was supposedly about how great bugs are and left Mommy with nightmares (especially with the giant spiders descending from the ceiling. I could have done without that part.) Kylie didn't seem to be affected one way or the other and Kyle thought it was a hoot. <Katharine rolls her eyes>. Afterwards, we paused to appreciate the sunlight and take some beautiful pictures.

California_1.jpg

The Bugs Life portion has this whole farmer motif going on which included crates full of (apparently) real lemons. Whether they were real or not, the crates made a good seating place for Miss Kylie. She'd pulled off her bow and kicked off her sandals a few times by this point, so we decided to go for the "back to nature look" (though not as "back to nature" as she probably would have liked, 'cause that would have meant going down to diapers and I thought that was a little too naturalistic. No (almost) naked babies here!)

California_2.jpg

Kylie looking beautiful. Even without her bow <laugh>.

The weather that Wednesday was gorgeous. As long as you were in the shade. And not walking around for miles. Like people tend to do when they're at Disneyland. <sigh>

Wherein Kylie Visits Toontown Part 1

|

So, our next stop was Toontown. Kylie actually fell asleep right before we got there and managed about forty-five minutes, before she woke up when her cousin started fussing (that's the problem with having a bunch of kids around -- it seems like someone's ALWAYS fussing.). Anyways, Kylie is like her Dad -- a very little sleep energizes her completely! So we spend the next hour or so playing around and doing photos in Toontown. Lots of fun.

Toon_Town_1.jpg

Kylie woke up from her nap with a little scratch. Why oh why do babies have such sharp fingernails?

Toon_Town_2.jpg

Kylie loves standing. She'll tolerate sitting, though she'd get frustrated when I wouldn't let her crawl on the ground, but with her new sneakers (a gift from her Nana), I had no problem with her experimenting with cruising (which is when she'll kinda crabwalk from one support to another.)

Wherein Kylie's Cousins Shine

|

Lest anyone think that we did nothing in Disneyland but fawn over Kylie, let me state that's completely not true. We confined our fawning to only about 90 percent of the time <grin>. But we did enjoy spending time with our nieces and nephews, and we did get some pretty pictures of them.

Wherein We Fly on Elephants and Other Things

|

So Tuesday dawned, and we were able to get into the park one hour early because we had those "get in early" tickets (don't ask me what the official name is). The whole family made a beeline (Well, most of the family made a beeline. Kylie and I had a small delay due to Kyle turning into a bit of a Camcorder Tyrant. <laugh>) straight for Fantasyland in an attempt to get some of the most popular rides out of the way before the wait become longer than an hour. My advice for anyone going to Disneyland? Get Peter Pan out of the way early, or you'll spend most of the day there.

Kylie was dressed in her brand new Disneyland hoodie. I don't think she cared, but her parents sure thought she was darling!

On_Dumbo.jpg

The first ride we did was Dumbo. Unfortunately, it's hard trying to get Kylie to look up for picure taking at just the proper time <grin>

On_Dumbo_2.jpg

Photo Ops are much easier when you're not moving.

Teacup_1.jpg

I'm in a little teacup, short and stout...

Teacup_2.jpg

Pretty big teacup, Mom...

Flowers_1.jpg

This is right outside the Snow White ride which, by the way, is a lot scarier than I remembered it being. It helps that Kylie's too young to understand any of it. Anyways, right as you come out, there's a little garden plot (like everywhere else at Disneyland) and Kylie was fascinated by the flowers.

Flowers_2.jpg

The hard part was trying to not let her pick them and eat them. "Look but don't touch" doesn't mean much when you're ten months old and convinced that the world exists for you to eat. Or at least taste.

Wherein a Disneyland Adventure is Begun

|

At the end of February, Kyle, Kylie and I visited Disneyland with the rest of my family. Since Daniel, my brother, had just returned home from his mission, it was the first time in three and a half years that my whole family had been together (It's three and a half years, because my sister Margaret went on a mission, and then Daniel left about a month before Margaret got back. So there was an overlap.)

It's the nature of life to have a few snags going on somewhere, and I have to admit this trip was full of them. I lost my cell phone on the plane during the very first leg of our trip; several members of the family were sick; and pregnancy meant I was tired a lot and unable to go on some of my favorite rides. But we had a grand old time anyways. Kylie's a little young for Disneyland, but she loved the spectacles and rides, even if she didn't understand the significance of anything.

If nothing else, Kyle had fun playing with his camera, as the 220 pictures he took testify (and that's not counting the ones that were deleted right after shooting for various reasons.) Luckily, I promise not to inflict the full amount on you -- only my favorites. Which should still keep me busy for the next few entries. <grin>

Park_Entrance.jpg

At the park entrance, the very first day. I actually didn't mind pushing the stroller around, as it gave me something to lean on and help support my waddling. Next time we go to Disneyland though, I'm beginning a strict training regime of walking at least a few months in advance!

Wishing_Well.jpg

At Snow White's wishing well. There had been a lot of rain the previous days, so I remember the fish that spout water were actually under water. Still very pretty, of course.

Stitch_Hat.jpg

Disneyland is awash in funny-looking hats. Unfortunately, Kylie's reached the stage where when she doesn't want something on her head, she's more than capable of pulling it off. We had to be really quick with the camera.

Wherein Kylie Plays in the Bath

|

Kylie does love her bath time. These pictures were taken at the beginning of February (see, we're catching up!) and they show her in all her nekkid glory, playing with bubbles. 'Cause every person needs nekkid baby pictures. Otherwise, how will we embarrass her in front of potential suitors? You have to think ahead for these things... <grin>

Let me be the first to admit, It's been a shamefully long time since we've had any new pictures on our website. But here are some! Pretty, pretty pictures!

Wherein a Party was Attended

|

Last Saturday, Kyle and I went to a Halloween part at our new ward. (They recently reorganized the wards in our local stake, and so we're in a brand new ward in a brand new building. It's very pretty.) Kyle and I dressed up like Harry and Ginny Potter and actually tied for coolest costumes with the family that all dressed up as punk-rockers. Personally, I think they were cooler, but I'm flattered nontheless.

We put Kylie in her Halloween outfit, partly because we want to make sure to get some good wear out of it , and partly because she just looks so darn cute!

We also were pulled aside by a member of the Bishopric and given a new calling. We're three for three! Kyle and I have been in three wards since we've been married, and we've called to be primary teachers in each ward! We must have "Can Deal With Kids" in our aura or something. This time we'll be with CTR 5 which is the 4 to 5 year olds. An "I'm Thankful for Blank" lesson, prayers, crayons, and some candy, and we should be good to go! <laugh>

DSC_0103.jpg
DSC_0114.jpg

And for inquiring minds who want to know... Yes, Kyle took a picture of Kylie and me and no, I'm not going to post it because yes, it's butt-ugly and yes, being in charge of posting pictures means I get to be unfair like that. Heh. <grin>

Note: In case anyone's interested, this is actually sized to be an 8x10. Not that I really think anyone prints these out, but if you were to, that's the size to print.

Actually, most of the pictures I put up are sized for 5x7. Would it be better to do 4x6? Does anyone have an opinion on this? Inquiring minds want to know!

Wherein Kylie Attacks the Alligator

|

I can't remember if I mentioned this before, but Kylie's room has a definite theme. It's pink and green and covered in -- alligators. Yup, you read that right, my daughter goes to sleep at night lulled by long white pointed teeth.

But it totally works!

Though, until I remember to take some pictures and post them, you might have to just trust me on this.

Anyways, Nana made a comment once that she was worried about Kylie growing up with nightmares because of all these images of large predators in her room. I think these next pictures show that we don't have anything to fear.

Wherein Kat Bemoans Software

|

I know it's been a long time since we've seen some new pictures on this blog. Sorry, sorry, sorry! It's all my fault. You see...

I was reading about how it's good to take pictures in raw format with digital cameras since it gives you more editing capability while still keeping the quality very high. (A good thing, because our pictures tend to come out kinda dark at first. Probably because we keep taking them when we're inside. Probably because we're always inside. Probably because we're actually a family of vampires. Bet you didn't know that, huh. <grin>) So I spend about two weeks taking pictures using the .nef format of our Nikon, ONLY TO FIND the photoshop version we had won't convert them. <pout> So, therein started a journey of installing new software, dealing with the fact that it's been about 5 years since I bought my computer and technology has marched on in the meantime, and basically having everything crash. A few times. <sigh>

Well, I'm back up now -- mostly -- and I can finally access those pictures I took! Much rejoicing all around and now I need to actually start posting them.

I also designed a webpage for Salon Io. Feel free to look and tell me what you think. (And if you see typos -- let me know! We actually had the website up for about a week before a client pointed out that I'd put in the phone number as (201) instead of (210). My bad!)

And last, but not least, here's Kylie sleeping in her favorite place -- her swing.

Wherein the Webcomic Girl Genius is Discussed

|

So in my web ramblings, I recently came across my now favorite webcomic ever. It's called Girl Genius, a 'Gaslamp Fantasy' by Studio Foglio and I heart it all over the place. It has mad scientists and cute undead monsters and steampunk machinery and victorian lingerie, so how can you go wrong?

An interesting sidenote is that Studio Foglio is a husband and wife team who have been doing comics for a long time and are actually making a living out of it! They spent quite a few years producing actual comics (32 page quarterly version, which were compiled into graphic novels) with a circulation of about 8000 which, for an independent comic, is pretty amazing. They decided to go online about a year or two ago, offer all of the comics available for free, and then publish the compiled graphic novels once a year. They estimate that since they went online, their readership has increased to about 150,000 and they're selling about 5 times as much as they were before.

Basically, they're doing what Kyle and I want to do, just a few years ahead of us.

I do feel I should warn you that since Girl Genius has been going on for about 5 or 6 years now, there is a very large archive to get through. Or, for those of you who live in Utah, you can probably order the paper versions from the library since the library there is pretty good at keeping independent comics in the stacks. Or buy them and then send the copies to me! <laugh> Yeah, when it comes to stuff I love, I'm pretty shameless.

Kylie thinks you should read Girl Genius too! Spread the love, man, spread the love!

Wherein Kylie Sits Up All By Herself

|

It might not last very long, but she can definitely sit up by herself now. She does it best when sitting on Mommy's knees (probably because I can shift around to help her keep her balance) but even on the ground she can support herself at least for a while. She tends to end up doing a face-plant, sometimes on her belly, and sometimes hunched over like she was a yoga master. Wish I could be that flexible again.

It's very true that without her grandmothers, Kylie would have nothing to wear. Her Nana (Kyle's Mom) has wonderful taste and loves to see her granddaughters not only look pretty (which of course, they do naturally) but look nicely-dressed as well. If anyone has every admired the bows that Kylie's wearing in a lot of her pictures, they're gifts from her Nana.

Her Grandma (Katharine's Mom) recently sent Kylie a pretty new Sunday dress, but unfortunately Grandma does not live close enough to see how Kylie looks in it. So here's a picture of Kylie in her Sunday dress dedicated to both of her wonderful Grandmothers.

Wherein the Benefits of Fridays are Discussed

|

My favorite day is definitely Friday. You see, Fridays are not only one of my days off, it's my day off with another day off after it. So, if I don't get the laundry done like I meant to? That's okay -- I still have Saturday! On Fridays I can laze around, go into digressions, do a two-hour tutorial just because I'm curious, whatever I want to. Fridays rock.

And in other news, here are some random pictures of my beautiful daughter who's getting bigger all the time.

Wherein Kylie Receives her First Haircut

|

When Kylie was born, she had almost no hair except for this very dark, long, tail at the back, just above her neck, like a minature mullet-in-the-making. Then, as her hair began to grow out, she would get these incredible long strands on the very top, twice as long as everything else, that would wave in the wind. I was always thinking they were loose hairs from me and yanking at them and cause poor Kylie to cry out in protest. So, last Saturday, her Daddy gave Kylie her very first haircut and now everything is much more uniform. <grin> Afterwords, Kylie and Mommy read their before-bedtime-book, "Good Night Moon". I'm not sure that Kylie really understands what I'm holding in front of her, but I think she likes the rocking if nothing else. <grin>

Wherein Photos are Manipulated

|

One of my late-night hobbies is playing around with Adobe Photoshop. I like to find tutorials to play around with and see how the effects come out on my own photos. So here are some examples.

Kyle&Scott.jpg

This is an example of the effect found in "The Bourne Identity" movie poster The picture is from April 27, 2007 in San Marcos. It's actually the first outing we took with Kylie Marie.

Kyle&Kylie.jpg

This tutorial was described as a high-contrast effect. I like the little bit of noise which gives it some texture. And of course, it's always nice to see pictures with my two favorite people in the world. <grin>

This is an example of me trying to do some corrections on a picture. I love the expression on Kylie's face in this photo but it had some problems. The first picture is how it came out originally -- very dark and with a serious color cast. The two pictures underneath are examples of corrections I did. The middle one is trying to get a natural look while the last is a little more arty.

Wherein Kylie Smiles Singly and with her Mommy

I think Kylie's ears make her look like an elf. Or a goblin. One of those two. <grin>

Wherein Kylie and Tara Pose Together

|

So, the Sunday before last Sunday (Gah! How does time go so fast?) we dressed up the girls in their blessing outfits again and took some beautiful pictures. It's not easy taking pictures of multiple babies -- you get one smiling and the other is either grimacing or sobbing. <laugh< But I think we got some good ones -- we put a few in frames for Glenda's birthday which was a definite hit.<laugh>

On a side note, I still adore Kylie's blessing dress. We found it at a little shop called Bambinos that Erin recommended. Right now it's hanging on Kylie's closet door with a big pink floppy bow on top of a hook. Easy decorating!

And last but not least...

(Because it's the responsibility of every parent to have at least a few pictures that will embarrass a child before potential suitors. <grin> )

A Girl and Her 'Gators...

(I would also like to take this moment to reassure nervous relatives that no, Kylie does not sleep with stuffed animals surrounding herself because all the parenting books say this is a Bad Thing and we don't do Bad Things at la Casa del Andersons. We just seize moments for Photo Shoots <grin>)

So when my Mom was here for Kylie's blessing, she was kind enough to buy Kylie a gift of an activity mat -- the kind that has arching bars and toys attached so that the baby has stuff to look at and try to touch and (in the case of my daughter) try to kick. Her aim isn't always right on, but she puts lots of power behind each attempt. I think when she's older, we might have to have Aunt Margaret demonstrate some soccer moves.

She's also begun to turn over and move around a bit more. She always turns on her right side, usually by lifting her legs in the air and then throwing her whole body over. Kylie also manages to move while still on her side, usually in a circle, so that it looks like she's break-dancing very, very slowly. Then she spits up over everything and smears her face to indicate she's done. Good thing the mat is washable!

Speaking of which, must do laundry (again) tonight.

Wherein Kylie is Blessed

We blessed Kylie last Sunday (June 8, 2007) and everything went wonderful. We had in the circle Kyle, Travis (Kyle's brother), my Dad, Jason (Kyle's brother-in-law), Grandpa Anderson, Gary (Kyle's uncle), and Justin (Jason's brother -- which makes him Kylie's uncle's brother). Little Tara (Erin and Jason's new daughter who's six weeks and one day younger than Kylie) was also blessed.

Kylie went with my Mom during Sunday School and had her first ever bottle of formula. She seemed to do fine with it, but when she spit-up it stained more than usual <sigh>. I wish we could have learned that lesson when she was NOT wearing her pretty blessing dress. Luckily for me, my amazing mother-in-law came over after church and got out the stain. So all is well that rinses well, or something like that. <grin>
